lolheroes - dyd; novel translation
Translation is quick and rough, as my proper translations go on Baka-Tsuki. These are primarily for things I haven't translated directly or proofread.
denyuuden vol. 9 pg. 119-131
(Milk wakes up. A boy just a bit older than her notices and starts crying.)
Moe: C-C-C-Captain Milk woke uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuup!
Milk: (at the same time) N-No way… Moe!?
(Moe lunges at Milk. However, a boy the same age as him kicks him out of the way.)
Lach: You’re an idiot! Captain Milk is still recovering! What are you doing, lunging like that!?
Milk: (surprised) Lach!?
(Lach’s also crying and shaking a lot.)
Lach: … Ah… Ah, geez… damn it… You’re alive… I’m so glad you’re alive… I… It’s no good for me either… Captain Miiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiilk!
(He lunges at her too.)
Lear: Lach!
(From behind Lach, a man with calm atmosphere and a graceful face whacks him on the head.)
Lear: Good grief, Lach… Didn’t you say so yourself that because the Captain is still recovering, you shouldn’t be noisy? The Captain is tired, so please lower your voice a little.
(That face, Milk also knows.)
Milk: … Lear.
(As she calls his name, he looks at her.)
Lear: … Is this a place where you need to use such a tone?
(Milk shakes her head.)
Milk: … You’re right. It’s all right now.
(Patting her head, he smiles. Like he’s talking to a young child, he smiles kindly.
Looking at that smile, Milk feels that it really is all right. She’s come home. There’s nothing to worry about anymore.
But—)
Milk: B-But… um, uh… I…
(Luke interrupts.)
Luke: It’s all right now. There’s nothing to worry about anymore.
Milk: Ah… right. Um, but…
Luke: Now, now, it’s been a long time since we’ve been together like this. Today, I’ll make whatever the Captain wants! What would you like to eat for dinner?
Milk: No, that’s…
(Moe quickly raises his hand into the air.)
Moe: Yes! Yes, ye—s! I—I want to eat curry!
Lach: He didn’t ask what you wanted to eat!
Moe: Eh—!? Then Lach doesn’t want to eat curry too—?
Lach: (long silence) … No, I want to eat curry too, but…
Moe: Then, let’s have a party! A curry party!
(Luke smiles wryly.)
Luke: Good grief, you two are hopeless… Then I’ll make curry, if Captain Milk doesn’t want…
(With a troubled face, Lear interrupts from behind him.)
Lear: One could say that you're hopeless as well, Luke-senpai. Since the Captain is still recovering, she shouldn’t eat curry right away, don’t you think? Parties are banned. Instead, the Captain should eat thin porridge and stay inside as she rests.
Lach & Moe: Ehhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh—!?
Milk: Aha… everyone is the same as always…
(Luke has an apologetic expression.)
Luke: Ah… I didn’t consider that… That’s right. Eating curry right away would be bad, wouldn’t it…?
Lear: Good grief, please be more reliable, Luke-senpai.
(Lach and Moe smile mischievously, looking at each other.)
Lach & Moe: That’s right, that’s right. Good grief, please be more reliable!
Luke: You two have no right to talk!
(Everyone smiles.
That’s right. This is how it always is.
She’s returned.
Milk watches them, thinking.
She’s truly blessed. To return to everyone like this, there’s nothing to worry about. It’s all right now.
Not a single thing has changed. Everyone’s smiling kindly as usual. And—)
Milk: …
(What in the world happened? Even though Milk was kidnapped, no one’s bringing up the subject and instead they’re smiling like always.
She’s certain that something happened.
Here—without doubt, something happened here in Roland.
Milk stares at them.)
Milk: … Hey.
(Luke shakes his head.)
Milk: … It’s all right. Really, everything’s ended. So just for today… rest. We should be concerned about the Captain’s health… right?
Milk: …
(Just for today…
That’s what he said.
In that case, would he tell her tomorrow?)
Milk: …
(As if.
To avoid putting her in danger, he’s already decided not to tell her the truth.
Milk thinks for a bit.)
Milk: Hmm~
(Luke claps his hands together.)
Luke: All right! Then, today, to the best of my ability, I’ll make the most delicious porridge ever!
Lach: (dejectedly) Eh~ I hate porridge~.
(Moe looks surprised.)
Moe: Eh~? Lach hates porridge? Why?
Lach: It just doesn’t have enough taste for me.
Moe: Then, then, how about we add some curry to the porridge?
Lach: Oh! That’s a good idea. Moe, you’re sure sharp today…
(Lear tightly grabs the back of their collars.)
Lear: I told you, curry’s no good. See, the Captain’s still recovering, so don’t make so much noise. Let’s leave this room.
(They move to leave. Luke stands up.)
Luke: Then I’ll go and make the porridge, so rest for a bit, Captain. Because of the “White Evening” spell, you were only false-sleeping.
(At those words, her head feels heavy.)
Milk: Fua, fua, fuaaaaa~
(She looks at Lear, Moe, and Lach exiting, as Luke gently pushes her back into the bed.)
Luke: Now, there’s nothing to be worried about, so please rest for a bit. When you wake up, there’ll be delicious porridge.
Milk: … Right.
(Milk nods.)
Moe: Tomorrow! Tomorrow we’ll have a party, so Captain, look forward to it! Sweet dreams!
Milk: Right.
(She nods again.)
Everyone: Good night.
(They leave the room.)
Milk: …
(However, she doesn’t go to sleep. She can’t fall asleep—not until she knows what’s going on.
She listens to their conversation outside of the room.)
Lear: Then I’ll report this to Kaiwal…
Luke: You do that. He’s probably worried.
Lear: … The place where Fro…
Luke: No, it’s fine now. Already, Major…
Lear: … I see. Then, I’ll be off.
Luke: Yes.
Lear: … From here…
Luke: …
(Their voices get farther and farther away, until Milk can’t hear them anymore.)
denyuuden vol. 11 pg. 33-77
(Milk thinks about Roland’s darkness, etc., realizing that the country is going mad and that Luke and co. were trying to hide this from her.
She’s currently standing in the site of the army experiments.)
Milk: … W-What is that…
(A large white serpent appears.
No, letters. Layers of white letters that form the shape of a serpent.
What in the world is it?
Magic? No, she’s never seen that kind of magic.
Then, what in the world…
She stops thinking about this because she can see a familiar, young white-haired man in the serpent’s mouth.
Her eyes widen.)
Milk: … L-Luke!?
(However, her voice doesn’t reach him. He’s trying to use the Latsel thread, glittering in the moonlight, to stop himself from being eaten.)
Milk?: … What is this monster!?
(Luke pulls on the thread.
Luke cuts the serpent’s head off, causing the letters to break apart.)
Milk: You did it!
(However, the serpent’s form repairs itself.)
Milk: Ehhhhhhhh~!?
(The serpent moves to gulp down Luke.)
Milk: W-Waaaaaaaa!? Don’t! Wait, no way… hold on… Luke!? I-I’ll come to save you now!
(Milk nods and does so. She has faith in them. They’re her comrades, after all—they won’t let her down, no matter what.)
Milk: …
(But it’s weird that they’re here, all calm like this. After all, Milk had sneakily slipped out of their official residence to follow Luke. She’d hidden her presence and wasn’t noticed by anyone.
It seems that they’d followed her as well, completely hiding their presence so that she wouldn’t notice.)
Milk: …
(They’re overwhelmingly stronger than her. They keep talking about how she’s an amazing captain, so strong, a great child, and no one stands a chance against her—but really, they’re stronger than her.)
Milk: …
(Well, she’d always had the suspicion…
She smiles wryly.
Nevertheless, it’s strange that everyone’s here.
They shouldn’t have predicted beforehand that she would follow Luke, and yet everyone’s here.
Milk stares at their faces.)
Milk: … By any chance, have you all been const~antly keeping an eye on me?
(In that instant, Moe looks flustered.)
Moe: Eh? Ah, no, we haven’t. Um, that… right, Lach?
(Lach also looks flustered.)
Lach: H-Huh!? Why me!? Uuuh, um, no, we really haven’t… right, Lear?
(Lear looks slightly shocked, before he smiles and nods.)
Lear: … That’s right. We haven’t. About that, Luke-senpai said something like… “Perhaps, as Captain Milk is gradually starting to doubt us, we shouldn’t leave her sight”, so…
(Milk holds her head as she thinks about that.
Luke’s right, as usual.
Always smiling and being relied on by the others—by Milk—he really feels like a kind father to his children.
He’s always been guiding them all.
So that she wouldn’t see the darkness.
So that she wouldn’t see the filthy part of the world, he tried to protect her.
That’s why.
That’s why she disliked that.
That she didn’t see the filth. That such happiness gathered around her. And Luke had told her that it was all right to avert her eyes—that was what everyone told her.
So that she can continue to be happy. So that she can continue to smile.
But already, it’s been long enough.
Everyone’s been by her side, smiling all this time. But they’ve been happy for long enough.
That’s why now, she wants to see the filthy side.
To see the filth and not be protected any longer.
She doesn’t want to always be protected by everyone.
That’s why—)
Milk: ...
(She stares at the faces of her subordinates before her eyes.)
Milk: Let’s enter the building…
(Again, Lear grabs her arm.)
Lear: No, we can’t do that.
(However, Milk was expecting that. Since they’re with her, they likely meant to stop her.)
Milk: Are those Luke’s orders? To watch over me here—Luke said that?
(Lear looks troubled.)
Lear: … Yes. If Captain already knows… then yes. Already, this country’s cogwheels are starting to turn…
(Cogwheels—that was what Lear said.
Already, this country’s cogwheels are starting to turn.
But what are those cogwheels?
Milk looks at the building. A broken-down, roofless building. Surrounding it is an unusual army and an unusual light.
Milk basically thinks about the country up from pg. 44 to pg. 51)
Lear: … What Captain Milk’s been thinking about is surely correct.
Milk: … Do you think His Majesty has gone mad? Or to awaken this country… he’s purposely writing this plot?
Lear: … It’s the latter.
(Milk thinks some more.)
Milk: … Then where do we stand?
(Milk looks from Lear’s face to the building’s.
Where do we stand—in this darkness?
Or do we fight this darkness?)
Lear: … We always stand by His Majesty’s side…
Milk: …
(In that instant, she stops breathing.
She thinks about what Sion’s done—like the human experimentation. This means her friends are willing to condone all this.
As they killed children who cried and called out.)
Milk: … This is… This is what Luke and everyone tried to hide from me—Roland’s darkness?
Lear: (sadly) … Were you disillusioned?
Milk: …
(She shakes her head.)
Milk: I wasn’t disillusioned.
Milk: I wasn’t disillusioned. After all, after all, Luke, Lear, and everyone—don’t I understand you all better than anyone else? I wasn’t disillusioned.
(She stares at them. They all have uneasy expressions. That’s good, she thinks.
She thinks of Ryner, and then how everyone was kind to her and called her family. They’ve always been protecting her.
So now, she wants to protect them.)
Milk: … It’s all right. I wasn’t disillusioned. So, don’t look so uneasy. Because I… I believe in everyone.
(At that, Lear looks like he’s about to cry. Lear, who’s always calm, starts to shed tears.
Lach and Moe as well.
Milk thinks that’s foolish—there’s no need to cry.
Because her trust in them had never been broken.
But—)
Milk: …
(But that’s why she looks through the darkness.
She continues to think about the country.)
Milk: … Where in the world is Roland headed…
(However, she stops. Suddenly, the surrounding moonlight isn’t there.
No, that’s not it. The light surrounding them all is absorbed by the building.
The world is losing its light.)
Milk: W-What…!?
Lear: Da… I have a bad feeling about this. Lach, Moe—protect the Captain!
(From the darkness, Moe and Lach hold onto Milk.)
Lach/Moe: Run, Captain!
Milk: Please don’t hurt—!
Lach/Moe: E-Eh? W-Wait a moment… what the heck is going on…
(Suddenly, light. An overwhelming, disorienting light bursts from the building—
Gooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!?
That sound, by her hear.)
Milk: … W-What is that?
(Light returns to the world. She can’t believe her eyes.
The building has disappeared without a trace. And all of the soldiers have been destroyed.
And the forest is gone too—basically, everything’s a wasteland now.)
Milk: … W-What just now…
(Large-scale destructive magic?
No, that’s impossible at that level.)
Milk: What did Luke fight…
Lieral: … What’s this? That we meet in this place… this is unexpected.
(Suddenly, from behind Milk, she hears a voice.)
Milk: Eh…?
(Milk turns around. However, there’s no one there. However, Lach and Moe have fallen to the ground.)
Milk: L-La…
(Again, from behind her.)
Lieral: I didn’t kill them. Relax. But we if meet again… well, it’s fine right now. I need to finish taking care of things.
(From behind her, a hand emerges and moves to grab Milk. A hand made of light. A strange, pure white light.)
Lear: … This way, Captain.
(He grabs the nape of Milk’s neck and pulls her away. As he does that, Milk looks over at the hand and its owner.
A man in his forties now stands there. Blond hair, deep blue eyes. A nice old-fashioned suit.
However, that’s not what’s important.)
Milk: …
(It’s his face that grabs Milk’s attention. His languid, calm face.
She doesn’t know him. And yet…)
Milk: …
(He resembles Ryner.)
Milk: Y-You are…
(However, Lear stands in front of Milk protectively.)
Lear: … Don’t touch her…
(He glares at Lieral. At that moment, his entire body releases a killing intent. Milk can’t move at such strong killing intent.
However, Lieral just smiles.)
Lieral: Ohhhh, what amazing killing intent. However, that won’t work. At that level, going up against me is the same as suicide, you know?
Lear: … We wouldn’t call giving up our lives for our comrades ‘suicide’.
Lieral: That’s right. I’m a monster. And this is a place where monsters gather… You’re a fine young man, but you shouldn’t be here. So please leave. There’s no need for you to die. Whaaat, you don’t need to be so concerned. That curse that that girl laid over you, I can erase it…
(He stops, as from behind him, a familiar voice rings out.)
Luke: Then, please disappear now.
(That calm, kind voice. Milk looks over at him. A tall, white-haired man stands.)
Milk: Luke!?
(However, Luke doesn’t look at her.)
Luke: Not now, Captain. First, I’ll deal with him.
(He moves his hand, wrapping the Latsel thread around Lieral’s neck.)
Lieral: Gua…
(Lieral frowns in pain. He looks around him.)
Lieral: … You again? Even though I released the “White Reason Serpent”…
Luke: White Reason Serpent? You mean that giant serpent from before? Ah, in that case, I destroyed it. And next is you.
(Lieral shrugs.)
Lieral: Ah well, between that Rahel Miller and the descendant of the Holy Knight Miran, the White Reason Snake might not have been enough…
(However, in that instant, Luke pulls back his arm. Lieral’s head falls off.
Luke—he easily killed another person.)
Milk: … L-Luke.
Luke: Not yet. Don’t move just yet…
(He looks at the head that’s rolling on the ground.)
Luke: Anyhow, it doesn’t seem like he’s dead?
(The head moves.)
Lieral’s head: Ah, you noticed?
(The head sticks out its tongue.)
Milk: Eeeeeeeeh!? Um, uh…
(Luke sighs.)
Luke: Geez, your head’s fallen off three times and each time you recover… This is no good. However, what in the world should be done? A human who won’t die after losing their head… what should be done about such an existence?
Lieral’s head: I’m not human anymore, you know.
(Luke folds his arms.)
Luke: … If you won’t die from losing your head or being burned alive, then perhaps you’re a vampire or some such that’s escaped from a fairy tale and we should drive a stake through your heart?
Lieral’s head: (cheerfully) Oh, that’s sharp of you. Do I really seem like a vampire?
Luke: … No, that kind of thinking is too out there. This is…
Luke: Your body is made of magic, isn’t it? Even if we were to chop your head up, it wouldn’t do anything… You’re simply playing with us. That’s the reason you’re invulnerable, isn’t it?
Lieral’s head: … My, my, you’ve figured it out already. Was it that obvious?
Luke: I’ve figured it out, yes. It’s strange that Miller-senpai and Lieutenant General Froaude didn’t come, regarding that defeated serpent. You’re keeping them occupied elsewhere with illusions of your body. However, there are numerous holes in your strategy.
(Lieral’s head makes an unpleasant expression.)
Lieral’s head: Uwa, is that so? That Rahel Miller person is unpleasant. He has an abnormally excellent mind, to see through my magic.
(Luke shrugs.)
Luke: No, he still hasn’t seen through it. We still don’t know where your true body is. From where in the world are you using this magic…?
Lieral’s head: Do you want to know?
Luke: Will you tell me?
Lieral’s head: Sure. Well, it’s fine if you gradually see me.
Luke: I see. Then please do.
(Suddenly, Lieral’s head falls apart. Black letters fall from it and dissolve into the ground.
And then, from behind Milk—)
Lieral: My true body… is right here.
Milk: Eh…
(Milk looks over her shoulder. Lieral’s holding her with both arms.)
Lear: C-Captain Milk!
(Luke looks at Lieral with cold eyes.)
Luke: … You moved where I expected.
(He moves both his hands, arranging the threads so that they wrap around Lieral.)
Luke: Let’s end this, Duke Lieutolu.
Lieral: … Uwa, no way… then, could it be? When you said that you didn’t know where my true body was, was that a fake?
Luke: …
(He doesn’t respond and instead pulls on the thread, easily cutting Lieral apart.
And then it ends.
—Or at least it’s supposed to. Though Lieral’s in pieces, his hand snaps.)
Luke: Wha—!?
(Lieral doesn’t stop snapping and smiles.)
Lieral: … You did wonderfully. Truly… Truly, if I were still human… if I were human, then this would be your victory without a doubt…
(He grabs Milk. Luke starts running.)
Luke: S-Stop—
(But Lieral doesn’t. His hand begins to radiate a blue-ish white. Milk understands that she’s in danger.
However, she doesn’t move. She’s bound to the spot.)
Luke: Stop!
(Luke’s running. However, Lieral doesn’t stop.)
Lieral: (murmuring) Erirufore, Erirufore… Cursed round life of the Goddess.
(In that instant, his hand covers Milk’s field of vision.)
Milk: … Ah—
(Something’s happening to her brain. She falls to her knees.
At the same time, Luke strikes Lieral. Lieral’s body vanishes.
Milk, unable to support herself anymore, falls to the ground.)
Luke: Captain!?
(He holds her and looks at her with a worried expression.)
Luke: A-Are you all right?
(Milk tries to respond.
I’m all right. I’m all right, so don’t make such a worried face.)
Milk: …
(But her voice won’t come out.)
Luke: … You filthy… what did you… what in the world did you do to her!?
(He raises his face and looks up at the night sky. His voice echoes in the darkness.)
Lieral: … Oi, oi, yelling like that in the middle of the night. I didn’t harm her. She’ll be fine in just a short while. However… she’s not what you think she is. You can’t keep her outside of the Mad Hero’s turning cogwheels.
Luke: The one who’s mad… is you!
Lieral: …
(There’s no response. Luke looks at Milk again.)
Luke: … Captain, are you all right?
(Milk can’t respond. She feels sleepy.
She thinks about Lieral’s words.
The Mad Hero.
The Mad Hero.
The Mad Hero’s turning cogwheels.
But who is the Mad Hero?
Human experimentation.
Children dying.
The destruction of the Callaud house.
Luke leading the strange soldiers.
Milk being held hostage.
Using Ryner.
Slowly, complicated cogwheels are turning.
Turning dizzily.
Ah, her consciousness is fading.
Her consciousness is fading.
As it fades, Milk thinks.
If her eyes open again, she’ll meet with him.
So that she won’t be confused, she’ll meet with him.
With this Mad Hero.
With the heart of this darkness.
With Sion Astal.)
